Buildable, Interactive Toy Train
Measuring 23 inches in length, the train features four different cars: a steam engine, a box car, a passenger car, and - of course - a caboose. Each car has been detailed with an impressive level of detail - from the red cowcatcher grille in front to the translucent windows on the caboose. Kids will enjoy playing with each individual car, linking them together, and rearranging their order. While the train doesn't feature a motor, it can easily be rolled around by hand.

There are plenty of additional features to keep the toy interesting. Our 11-year-old tester especially appreciated some of the more interactive parts of the set - like the opening side doors, trap door ceilings, and rolling wheels. These features make the train not only a fun building project, but also a fun toy in its own right.

Reenact Scenes from Toy Story 3
Featuring Toy Story-themed minifigures, this set gives kids everything they need to reenact the exhilarating train chase scene from Toy Story 3. The set includes minifigures of Buzz Lightyear, Woody, Jessie, Bullseye the Horse, Rex, and Dr. Porkchop. Builders can take up the role of Woody, as he races to rescue the captive Rex from the Evil Dr. Porkchop. Kids can either choose to follow the movie's narrative, or invent their very own story. An Easy, Engaging Build
With 584 pieces, the Desert Destruction set will provide an intermediate challenge for younger kids. It took our tester (an accomplished LEGO builder) about two and a half hours to fully assemble. In addition to the more traditional blocks and sticks, the set includes various embellishing pieces that help make the train look more realistic.

The set comes with a colorful, step-by-step instruction manual to assist you in building. Or, if you're not interested in building the pre-designed train, you can use the many hinges, blocks, and embellishing pieces to build your own, unique creation.

What's in the Box
584 lego pieces and an instruction booklet.

Toy Story 3 LEGO 2010 Review - Duplo Sets For Young Imaginations

Toy Story 3 LEGO 2010 Review - Duplo Sets For Young Imaginations

In 2009 it was announced that Pixar Animation Studios, now part of Disney Studios, would allow Lego to make sets that feature scenes and characters from their films, both as part of the latter company's regular and Duplo range.Duplo is Lego' s juniorized range and the first sets released include scenes from the films Toy Story and Cars.In this article we take a look at the Duplo Toy Story toys.Lego's Duplo Toy Story wave of sets for younger builders is recommended for ages three and above and is aimed squarely at younger builders with small hands but big imaginations.Duplo pieces are larger than the regular Lego brick, and so easier to fix to one another.Overall the sets are smaller in piece count if not in overall size. Each Duplo set comes with two inch action figures that can interact with the elements in the set, carrying implements and standing securely on the studs that make Lego such an effective construction toy.Lego released four Toy Story Duplo sets in the first wave out in stores May 2010.The sets range in size from 13 to 39 pieces and prices from $14.99 to $34.99 so there is something for every small fan and their parent's wallet. The smallest set, Jessie's Roundup features both Jessie and Bullseye but you have to go to the two largest sets, Alien Space Crane and The Great Train Chase, to get the main character draws, Woody and Buzz. This point may detract parents from purchasing the sets but when you look at the versatility of Duplo compared to similarly priced Toy Story toys on the market, Duplo is a longer term investment for a child's imagination.Duplo and Lego are toys kids play with for years. My son is 9 and when he grew out of Duplo we passed all the toys onto his younger sister, and now they play together. Each of the sets has their own strengths.Jessie's Roundup is small but contains enough blocks for a child to create a many different structures for the figures to interact with.In the Pizza Planet Truck set which features Buzz and a Little Green Alien, kids can also play with the truck, take it apart and build their own design. With the two largest sets the sky is the limit. The Alien Space Crane comes with Woody, a little green Alien and Buzz Lightyear.Kids can use the garbage truck with the crane and extra building pieces to create any story situation their mind can handle. The back of the garbage truck comes off so the vehicle can become a car or even a space ship. With 23 pieces of large Duplo blocks the set is a great addition to already existing Duplo collections or the start of a new one.The Great Train Chase comes with Jessie, Woody and Buzz and also a train engine and carriage as well as enough bricks to build a tunnel for the train to go through. As with all Duplo bricks, the train carriages come off their bases so kids can customise the designs and create their own boxcars or cabooses. At 39 pieces this is the largest set and comes with the core Toy Story figures so is sure to be a hit.The diversity of bricks and the cool train allow for hours and hours of creation.Duplo teaches kids hand eye coordination and creative design and kids are drawn to them for many years.Combining Duplo with Toy Story ensures these sets will be around in your family for generations.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for young toddlers, October 30, 2009

My son was given this item as a gift for his 1st birthday. He was immediately drawn to it and started playing with the blocks right away (of course that is not unusual for a new toy).
The good things: He still enjoys playing with it after months of it being around, bright colors, sturdy design, compact folding and storage, perfect height for him. Also, I know you can buy more blocks to go with it as the child grows and develops.
The bad things: you just have to make sure the legs are locked into place (not that big of a deal), and it doesn't come with a maid to clean up after my son!
Overall this is a great toy, and my son and I are very pleased.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mega Bloks Build'n Go Table, April 3, 2010

My son received this at 19 months and is 22 months now. He plays with this table, but usually we just pull out the bag of Mega Blok Legos without the table. We are able to build a bigger variety of things with the bag of 200 Mega Legos when not using the table. The road takes up much of the building room, so I would have preferred it not have the road in the middle. If we didn't already have a 200 count bag of Mega Bloks and a million other toys, maybe my son would have played with this one more. It could be that the 20 bloks included in this set are enough to keep the attention of little ones when they don't have a bunch of other options to choose from.

If you are short on storage room, then you'll probably like that this table can fold up when it is not in use. You won't be able to fit additional Mega Bloks in this table for storage though, so don't throw away what you are currently storing your Mega Legos in. I noticed some people complained their child removed the... Read more

First off, I am a huge fan of Mega Blocks. They're bright and colorful, and are wonderful for sparking imagination and creative building. My son builds towers, pirate ships, cities, etc., something new every day. It's great to have a toy these days that does not require batteries! I love that this set comes with a table that can be used both for storage and as a platform for building. I have had one instance where one of the legs gave out, but overall it's been a very sturdy table and has withstood some rough play by my children. I would recommend the expansion pack for this table if you don't have any Mega blocks already, as this one only comes with about 20 pieces. Overall, I highly recommend this set!
